600-HP Acura NSX Type S Production Has Started

Only 350 units are planned for the brand's most powerful model.
What's very likely the final version of the Acura NSX has officially entered production. The NSX Type S, limited to only 350 examples, is now rolling off the assembly line at the Japanese automaker's Marysville, Ohio facility, specifically the Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC). Not surprisingly, every example is already spoken for and production is scheduled to end later this year. "Today is an exciting day for PMC and Acura as we begin shipping the highly-desired NSX Type S supercar," said PMC Division Lead Gail May. "Every associate here is committed to ensuring that each Type S we build, from VIN#001 all the way up to VIN#350, will be as perfect as the first second-generation NSX this team built in 2016."

The first two examples feature the gorgeous Gotham Gray matte exterior paint that actually requires unique handling and shipping techniques in order to guarantee it doesn't get damaged when heading to dealers. The protection consists of a newly developed film that's applied to the completed car along with a thicker and softer body covering. Acura dealers are also receiving special training on how to treat the paint, a key detail owners need to know about. Additional special features found on the Type S include bespoke five-spoke wheels, stickier Pirelli P-Zero rubber, a retuned adaptive damper system, exclusive decals, and a carbon fiber roof. Underneath that lightweight roof panel lies the most powerful engine Acura has ever stuffed into a production car: a newly updated version of the already excellent twin-turbo V6 and its three-motor hybrid system. Total output comes to 600 horsepower and 492 lb-ft of torque.
