Drako Dragon Is The World's Latest Bonkers Hypercar

The Drako GTE made its debut in August 2019, and since then we haven't heard much about it. It surfaced again in April 2021, sliding across a frozen lake, but that's about it. To be fair, 2020, or the year of which we do not speak, was tricky for everyone. We can only imagine how terrible it must have been for an electric supercar upstart.

The Drako GTE is back in the news this week following the release of a few teaser images and an all-new name. The GTE is dead, and the car will now be known as the Dragon. To be blunt, we wand-er why Drako didn't call it the Malfoy.

The reason for the new name is a shift in the EV hypercar game. The GTE was supposed to be a 1,200-horsepower quad-motor beast, limited to 25 models. While that was impressive in 2019, it's a bit feeble in 2021. Greece recently unveiled its 3,000-hp hypercar, and you will soon be able to buy a Superformance EV Cobra with 1,500 lb-ft of torque. Bugatti Rimac is also officially a thing, and we can't wait to see what it comes up with.

But back to the Malfoy. The GTE started life as a Karma Revero, which was based on the Fisker Karma, which dates back nearly a decade. Still, Drako promises that there isn't a single part of the GTE that wasn't touched while making the Dragon.

We suspect that means more power and torque, larger batteries, and a modern battery cooling system like the one you'll find on the Porsche Taycan. It will also have adjustable suspension with five modes, giving it a broader range of talents. As for performance, there are no figures. Drako simply states that it's faster than the GTE, for which it never provided performance figures either. Like every other EV hypercar out there, it will likely take less than two seconds to get to 60 mph.

Drako didn't say anything about price, but the GTE was supposed to retail for $1.25 million, and we're expecting a bit more than that. The Malfoy (apologies, Dragon) will make a proper debut in January 2022. Specialis Revelio!
