The Bugatti Chiron Is Completely Sold Out, What's Next for the Molsheim Company?
Deep-pocketed enthusiasts can no longer buy a brand-new Chiron straight from Bugatti, as the final 40 units or so of the hypercar, which were still up for grabs last fall, have been spoken for. The announcement was officially made by Bugatti in a press release that looks back at a very successful 2021.
Now, this being Bugatti, don’t expect to see the usual sales numbers released by automakers, as the only thing they said is that 150 customers “personalized and ordered a hyper sports car from Bugatti” last year, 60% of whom were new to the brand.
“2021 was an exceptional year for Bugatti, despite all the challenges the world faced,” said Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles, and COO of Bugatti Rimac. “My thanks to Stephan Winkelmann – who led our marque as President from January 2018 to November 2021 – for laying such a strong foundation, and for delivering the most successful sales year in our brand’s illustrious 112-year history.”
Besides parting ways with the entire Chiron build slots, the Molsheim auto firm also shipped the last Divos to customers all over the world. All 40 units of the Bolide were also allocated in two months after the unveiling at The Quail, last August. Bugatti expanded its presence in different markets by opening showrooms in Tokyo, Singapore, Riyadh, and Manchester, and organized nine major events from its headquarters, in addition to over 100 activities put together by their local partners.
In 2022, the exotic car manufacturer plans to deliver at least 80 vehicles, including the Chiron Super Sport, and Centodieci. At the same time, they will focus on the future under the new joint company, Bugatti Rimac, with Rimac Automobili and Porsche, led by CEO Mate Rimac, who took the reins in November.
“We believe what we have created with Bugatti Rimac is the best hypercar company in the world, blending over a century of heritage, craftsmanship, and innovation, with the quick-thinking, ingenious engineering and pioneering electrification technology of Rimac Automobile,” said Mate Rimac. "I can’t think of a better combination of expertise, and – as a life-long admirer of Bugatti – it’s an honor for me to lead this joint company as CEO into a revolutionary new future for Bugatti.”
